“Le Jean Design created a cohesive space with cozy textures and a vibrant art collection. Luxurious and kid-friendly elements perfectly coexist in the open living space”

”The couple’s artworks informed the moody neutral palette, graphic patterns, and rich fabrics that are found throughout. We really played with different textures and sheens and used decor to add pops of color.”

“In the newly open living-dining area, Jean laid a silver Missoni rug on the original floors to delineate the sophisticated sitting zone. The client said, ‘No sharp edges,’” Jean reports, explaining that they wanted the apartment to be safe for their daughter. “That led us to softer-edged furniture that has some sort of curve.”

“Jean transformed the other kitchen into a sultry wet bar with verde minas soapstone, custom walnut millwork, and black limewash. “The theme was to have it feel a little sexy, a little moody, like a lounge,”

“Jean Parker’s New York City project takes “inspired by its surroundings” in a completely unexpected direction”

“One thing that we really wanted to lean into was the surrounding landscape and architecture,” Jean says, pointing out the canopy of trees and the unobstructed view of a neo-Gothic church. “But we also wanted it to be a little more dramatic,” she says. “So, I used a moody twist to naturally occurring colors.”

In the primary bath, Jean sourced antique terra-cotta tiles from European estates and then hand-sealed them. Elsewhere, Jean took the reins on the wall finishes herself, often blending her own colors.

“Slow production is not only more sustainable, but you are getting a level of craftmanship or craftwomanship that you can’t replicate”

“The whole place feels like one giant, peaceful, stylish tree house.”

“Edit, iterate, and obsess. The way I approach design projects is by sub-dividing and conquering over time. Before making a purchase, take the risk-free option of creating mock-ups to visualize your home and don’t be afraid to find yourself 60 pages deep into a search for a particular object. It’s normal.”

“But even when used as an accent color on furniture, lighting, or curios, this tone when paired with green can spell elegance.”

'Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, we designed an atmospheric dining room that exudes a sense of drama,' says Jean Parker, founder and principal designer at Le Jean Design. 'The space is angled towards a row of floor-to-ceiling windows that provides a panoramic view of the lush treetops. We selected a rich set of patterns and textures, along with black-toned shades to showcase the dynamic range and depth of greens. One of our favorite details is the seamless harmony between the engravings on the vintage vase by the late José-Antonio Sarmiento and the malachite wallpaper by Cole & Son.”

“A bedroom should be serene, tranquil, and a place where you can truly recharge and reset,” says designer Jean Parker.
